The Importance of Regular Plumbing Maintenance
July 16, 2024 Blogging Claude Lowe

Regular plumbing maintenance is a key component of keeping your home safe and functional. Plumbing issues can cause significant damage if they are allowed to linger, which could lead to hundreds or even thousands of dollars in repairs. However, with regular inspections and maintenance, you can avoid many problems before they become serious issues. This article broadly explains the need for regular, professional plumbing maintenance, from how it works to why it’s necessary. What Is Professional Plumbing Maintenance? Professional plumbing maintenance involves regularly scheduled inspections and tune-ups of your home’s plumbing system. During this process, technicians will inspect pipes, drains, and fixtures for signs of wear and tear or damage. They can spot potential leaks and other issues that could lead to an unexpected plumbing emergency. Once they complete their inspections, plumbers can make any necessary repairs or replacements, confirm that your plumbing is up to code, and ensure optimal functionality. Why Is Professional Plumbing Maintenance Important? A plumbing problem can turn into a bigger problem over time. Waiting until something is a large issue jeopardizes the safety of your family, and it even puts your neighbors at risk. Furthermore, fixing a big problem costs far more than what you would spend on regular maintenance. A professional plumber is equipped to identify and address issues in your plumbing system. With regular maintenance routines, such as drain cleaning and pipe inspections, plumbers can prevent problems from occurring in the first place. Cleaning the Sink Pipes Keeping your sing pipes clean is an essential step in preventing clogs and blockages. Over time, hair, soap, food waste, and other debris can accumulate in your pipes, causing slow drainage or even complete blockages. With regular professional maintenance, you can avoid such blockages, and your sink will continue to function properly. Checking for Leaks Regular maintenance helps protect the longevity of your plumbing system. A plumber can perform thorough inspections to identify any potential leaks. Even small leaks can cause significant damage over time, including mold growth and water damage to your floors and walls. As a property owner, you want to make sure your plumbing works efficiently and effectively. Doing so helps prevent unnecessary, avoidable repairs. Maintaining Your Toilet A properly functioning toilet won’t leak or back up, protecting you from costly repairs. Additionally, a well-maintained toilet is more efficient, which translates to lower water bills. When you regularly service your toilet, you reduce

Stages of Plumbing
June 13, 2024 Blogging Claude Lowe

Ground Work If you are building a new home then the first stage might be bringing the services into your house, either a plumber or the excavation company will do this for you.  You will need a permit from the City of Edmonton and get this stage inspected about the same time the footings are being poured. In new home construction there are two points when the ground work can be done.  Sometimes once the walls are poured for the basement the ground work can be installed, inspected and then buried.  In many cases though the ground work will be completed at the same time as the rest of the rough-in plumbing.  Check with the City of Edmonton to make sure this is still the case. During the ground work phase all of the drains will be hooked up to the main service and any basement bathrooms for the future will need to be installed at this point.  Also, the main water line will need to be brought from the service to the area where the meter will eventually be placed.  Today that is the mechanical room or furnace room. Water lines in a house underground are generally going to be made out of PEX or copper.  The drain lines in the ground are generally ABS, but could be PVC drain line (white) or PVC (grey). Before the drain leaves the house is where you will want to have your whole house backwater valve installed.  These help with any potential sewage backups that might occur. If the job you are having done is a basement development then you might see cast iron under the cement.  The pipe will need to be cut in two places to make room for the Y fitting you will install for your basement bathroom. Get your ground work inspected by the City of Edmonton, Strathcona County or the location you are living in. Rough In Plumbing The rough in plumbing stage can be part of the ground work stage but not in all cases.  This stage you will need to install all of your drains and vent pipes as well as the water lines.  You will also need to install all of the bathtubs, showers, or shower bases that you have going into your house.  This has to be done regardless of whether you are building a new home, basement development or renovating your house.

Plumbing Maintenance: How Often Should You Schedule It?
May 29, 2024 Blogging Claude Lowe

Prevention has always been better than cure; no one refutes that. But it’s shocking how homeowners don’t consider scheduling regular maintenance for their home system to prevent disasters and expensive repairs. More so for plumbing systems that are needed every day to enhance living.  Now imagine what a plumbing failure does to your home, whether that’s the tap bringing in fresh water to your shower or bathtub, washing machines, dishwashers, running water to the boiler, and getting rid of wastewater from the sewer system. As you can see, a plumbing system does more than you can imagine when it comes to bettering your life. As such, it should receive the same care to keep it working optimally. Now, let’s look further into why plumbing maintenance is critical in your home and how often you should schedule it.   Why schedule preventative plumbing maintenance? Catching problems ahead of time: Most homeowners fail to take preventative maintenance on their plumbing systems because they don’t notice anything wrong with their systems. As long as their plumbing is functioning properly, they’re good to go.  The problem with this approach is that plumbing problems are subtle. They rarely give any alerts until further advanced for you to do anything. A tiny pinhole could be around for months without being noticed. But with scheduled maintenance, a professional plumber will catch the issues before they advance (a pinhole becomes a leak and finally a massive rupture).  Saving thousands in cost: On the surface, you may feel like planned maintenance costs unnecessary money if nothing appears wrong. However, in the long run, the cost-saving pays for itself. Advanced plumbing repairs will cost you significantly more than they would on early detection. For instance, on catching a sewage weak point before it becomes a leak, you’ll save yourself expensive repairs or reflooring.  Saves time: Dealing with a plumbing disaster can be time-consuming. While this may not seem much now, imagine staying for a few weeks for you to use your toilet just because the fixes and installations of new floors are taking more time than planned.  Ensure the plumbing system stays in good shape: Your plumbing may have cost you a fortune, so it’s essential to maintain it in good condition for as long as possible.  Enhance efficiency: A well-maintained plumbing system will have a substantial difference from one that’s hardly maintained. If you want the best experience in your plumbing systems, ensure regular maintenance.

6 Types of Additional Services That a Full Service Plumber Provides

When you have a clog in your piping system or need a new toilet fixture installed the obvious move is to call your trusty local plumber. It’s hard to imagine this type of work keeping a multi-employee plumbing company busy throughout the year though, isn’t it? This is because fixing drains and toilets are only a portion of a plumber’s job. Here are some jobs that full-service plumbing companies offer for you to take advantage of in the future. Sewer / Water Line Replacement It’s easy to think that when water goes down your drain it’s out of your life forever. While that is partially true, that water also has to go somewhere. If you have issues with your sewer or water line, you’ll find that the ‘somewhere’ is usually back into your house or bubbling out of your ground. Sewer and water line repairs and replacement are needed when pipes going from your house to the mainline break from old age or because of a  conspicuously placed tree root. Tests to Detect Odors Funky odors in your house can be a nuisance, but they can also pose a safety risk as well. We can pinpoint the source of the odors either via electronic means or with the use of a smoke test. In a smoke test, we inject smoke into your plumbing system to find the exact location where water and gases exit your pipes or where unwanted rainwater enters. These tests can increase your utility efficiency in addition to providing a sound peace of mind. Dishwasher, Washer & Dryer Installations Sure plumbers specialize in toilet, bathtub/shower, and sink fixture installations. We’re also the ones to call for other appliance installations in your home including the dishwasher and washing machine/dryer combos. These units require a safe connection to your home’s water line which only a plumber can provide. Backflow Preventers Repairs and Installations Most people don’t think about backflow preventers until it’s too late – which in this case means you’re drinking and bathing in contaminated water. Backflow preventer testing isn’t just recommended, in most jurisdictions, it’s demanded by local and state authorities. Backflow systems are important so that wastewater doesn’t siphon back into your ‘good water’ supply. Installation of Flood Protection Systems Another consideration that usually isn’t taken until after the fact is flood protection systems. These types of implementations go beyond sump pumps, however. Systems that offer

5 Reasons Why You Should Hire a Professional Plumber
March 9, 2024 Blogging Claude Lowe

Many times, DIY home plumbing renovations can help you save money. Homeowners can repair running toilets, minor leakage, and clogged drains with the correct equipment. Local home improvement stores easily obtain the right parts and provide experienced advice. For example, homeowners may simply clean minor hair clogging from shower and bathroom sink drains with appropriate tools that won’t damage drainpipes. Tightening loose faucets with a wrench and little know-how is another simple home repair that could help homeowners avoid paying a qualified plumber. When it comes to preserving your property from water damage, though, most plumbing repairs should be left to the professionals. To effectively find and repair leaks, connect gas lines securely, and clear drains without harming pipes, plumbers go through comprehensive training, courses, and years of on-the-job experience. Here’s the top five reasons to hire a professional New York plumber for your next job. 1.Safe Repairs The most important cause to leave plumbing work to professionals is safety. Specialized skills like soldering and understanding of plumbing regulations and how plumbing systems operate are standard requirements for plumbing service and repair. Excavation is required for many houses’ plumbing repairs, such as repairing water and gas lines or even sewer lines. Before any trenching or excavation, licensed and insured plumbers know to contact the appropriate authorities to indicate any underground lines that may be harmed in the process. A plumber’s specialized knowledge and training include knowing where the lines go and correctly accessing pipes that need to be replaced. Soldering to fix copper water lines, water shut-off valves, and water connections are examples of special skills that must be executed with precision and care. Soldering, which employs an open flame and is frequently done in confined quarters, is a severe fire hazard. Plumbing safety training is given to technicians regularly, and they will guarantee that your home is always safe. It takes talent to know where water lines go, how sewer system functions, and spot possible problems. Professional plumbers can swiftly detect the source of plumbing issues and repair them according to plumbing code. Plumbing repairs frequently necessitate city licenses and inspections and can only be completed by a professional plumber. 2.Avoiding Water Damage Making repairs to pressurized water lines incorrectly might result in flooding and water damage to your house. Replacing water shutoff valves and supply lines is a typical example. Professional plumbers understand that upgrading water shutoffs requires

Common Types of Plumbing Services
January 23, 2024 Blogging Claude Lowe

As a homeowner, you will undoubtedly face a variety of plumbing maintenance issues at some point or another. Anything from a clogged toilet to a leaky pipe could occur throughout your time in your home. Understanding common plumbing problems, how to repair them, and the types of plumbing services a professional would offer can help you tackle plumbing issues head on and avoid serious damages.  Common Plumbing Issues While taking care of your plumbing system with appropriate use and proper maintenance can help it last longer without issues, it won’t prevent the occasional clog, leak, or failure. Older homes especially tend to need more attention, but thankfully, many common plumbing issues have simple solutions.  Here are a few to watch out for, as well as how to resolve them: 1. Low Water Pressure Have you noticed your water pressure weakening over time? Low water pressure is a problem typically caused by a build-up of deposits or sediment on your faucet aerators.  As water enters your pipes, it carries along with minerals that deposit themselves on the metal surface of your shower head or faucet. Over time, these deposits can clog your system, causing low water pressure. A good filtration system will help remove the minerals from the water, preventing them from collecting in your plumbing system. If your low water pressure is caused by a clog in your faucet, resolve it by removing the aerator and soaking it in a vinegar and water solution overnight. If cleaning your faucet aerator doesn’t resolve your low water pressure issue, then you likely have a more serious issue at hand. Call in a professional to diagnose the real issue. 2. Leaky Pipes An annual plumbing inspection can help identify a leak in your plumbing before it becomes a major issue. Should you identify one yourself or see signs of water damage, then the leak will need to be addressed as soon as possible.  Most pipe leaks occur at the joints. To resolve the issue, you can find joint filler in most home improvement stores. Keep in mind that this is a temporary fix. It’s likely that the pipe itself or its fittings will need to be replaced, which you should call in a professional to handle unless you have plumbing experience. If you choose to handle the replacement yourself, keep in mind that it can quickly become a messy job. 3. Clogged Drains We’ve all been
